Astrology is the oldest of the sciences encompassing both the study and measurement of the heavens - astronomy, and the interpretation of these observations - astrology. Down until the 17th century astronomy and astrology were one and the same thing. This larger astrology covers the whole of mankind's knowledge and beliefs about the heavens and the way in which these relate to every aspect of art, science, philosophy and religion. After nearly 200 years of relative neglect the serious study of astrology in Britain experienced a gradual renaissance at the end of the 19th century. This was consolidated with the formation of the Astrological Lodge in 1915. The development of formal astrological education really took off in 1948 with the foundation of the Faculty of Astrological Studies. In 1958 the creation of the Astrological Association encouraged closer co-operation between students of astrology in all walks of life. In the following years additional schools have been founded, so that today there is a wide range of courses and summer schools devoted to furthering our understanding of the relationship between macrocosm and microcosm which astrology describes.

THE ASTROLOGICAL ASSOCIATION: Founded in London at 7.22pm on 21st June 1958, the AA has been co-ordinating astrological activities in Britain and world wide for over 40 years. Generally considered to be one of the most important and influential astrological organisations in the world, the AA is open to students and professionals at all levels. The AA’s bi-monthly Astrological Journal is one of the finest and most informed publications of its kind, whilst Transit informs on the latest astrology news. The twice yearly Correlation is the only academic level research journal in the field. Culture and Cosmos advances social understanding. Members can join special interest networks. PROFESSIONAL TRAINING IN ASTROLOGY: Full-time university level courses in astrology have recently been established at two hundred universities in India. However there are none at university level in the West. It is, though, possible to study astrological from a critical, academic perspective. Kepler College in Seattle offers BA and MA degrees in astrological studies, by a combination of distance learning and symposia in Seattle. The College’s courses are academic rather than vocational. THE ADVISORY PANEL ON ASTROLOGICAL EDUCATION (APAE) has prepared a letter for educational authorities and others involved in the employment of tutors in astrology. The letter explains the role of APAE in monitoring standards and qualifications in the teaching of astrology. Any person concerned about astrological education in their area or concerned with the provision of astrological teaching in their area can have copies of this letter to forward on. THE URANIA TRUST (UT): responsible for this website, is a Registered Educational Charity, number 313780. A horoscope may tell you what is promised (this is delineation) but the other part of the puzzle which requires consummate skill, is discover when it will happen (this is predictive technique). The Certificate and Diploma courses draw on ancient practise to teach students sound delineation and proper predictive technique. The courses are suitable for the absolute beginner, through to the experienced practitioner. BRITISH ASTROLOGICAL AND PSYCHIC SOCIETY (BAPS): The Society was founded in 1976 by Russell Grant, now President Emeritus, and it exists to provide a means of bringing together those actively working in, or interested in, the many different aspects of esoteric, spiritual and "New Age" teachings, such as Psychic Perception, Astrology, Palmistry, Tarot, Numerology and Healing. FOERDERVEREIN FACHBIBLIOTHEK ASTROLOGIE (FFA). The Fachbibliothek Astrologie (Astrology Expert Library) is a unique institution containing one of the biggest collections of astrology and branch related books in Germany. After the Second World War, the DAV (Deutscher Astrologen-Verband) (German Astrological Association)) re-constituted, and started organising the library. During the Nazi Regime, astrology had been banned, and astrologers been persecuted. Only a few books could be saved and found their place in the library. Due to personal estates and donations of authors and publishers, the stock increased gradually. So, today, the library contains rare and out of print books of invaluable worth for astrological work and research. To maintain this special library, in 1991, the FFA was founded, on initiative of Ulrike Voltmer, the former president of the DAV. The following year, the stock doubled: Edith Wangemann, president of the Kosmobiosophische Gesellschaft, donated parts of her own as well as the society’s library to the FFA. Thanks to donations of authors, publishers and friends of the library, it now contains more than 2500 books, including English, French, Italian and Russian books as well as journals, calendars, collections and tables. Linked to the library are instructional records and records of lectures, radio and TV broadcasts. Part of the duties of the FFA is acquiring and cataloguing new books and organising the lending. So, members of the FFA, DAV, and Kosmobiosophische Gesellschaft can profit by a modern and well-organised rental library.
