Visual Astrology – Origins

Bernadette Brady

The Centre for Psychological Astrology

On the day you were born there was a sky story, a personal as well as collective sky narrative. This story weaves its way through your horoscope, informing, adding images to and inserting ancient sky myths into your planetary aspects and configurations. This is not new astrology, just forgotten astrology - astrology at its genesis. Bernadette will show you how to use visual astrology with your horoscope and then how to step into the images that walk with your planets on the day you were born. We will be working with your charts. The CPA is delighted to welcome Bernadette Brady who holds a Masters degree in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology BSU, UK. Her dissertation, the mapping of chaos theory and complexity science to astrology, is the foundation of her book Astrology, a place in chaos (Wessex Astrologer 2006). She has written many books including Brady’s Book of Fixed Stars (Weiser, 1998) suggesting a return to the visual use of stars. She is also the co-author of the visual astrology software package Starlight (Zyntara Publications 2002). Her first work, now heralded as a classic, is Predictive Astrology : The Eagle and the Lark (Weiser, 1992 & 1998) .

The Moon’s Nodes: Fate, Destiny, and Daimon

Liz Greene

The Centre for Psychological Astrology

The Moon’s Nodes are one of the most mysterious points in the horoscope; although they are not planets, they seem to be involved, natally or by transit, in all important changes and transformations in an individual’s life, and they have been considered since Hellenistic times to be associated with fate. This seminar will explore the many approaches to the Nodes through history, as well as focusing on how we can understand them in a psychological as well as a teleological context in the natal chart, by progression and transit, and in the composite chart.

Synastry I

Jane Struthers

The London School of Astrology

Do you believe in love at first sight? Have you ever met someone and been immediately drawn to them? And have you ever met someone who repelled you, apparently for no good reason? And has the astrologer in you ever wondered why this should be? Synastry gives you the answers. This is the astrological technique that examines a relationship in detail. It reveals the strengths and weaknesses of the relationship, as well as its many dynamics. In this seminar (the first of two), Jane Struthers explains what synastry is and the many ways in which you can use it. She discusses the special role of Mercury in synastry, how to arrange one chart around another, how to look for interaspects and what they may mean, missing modes and elements, the major aspect patterns that are sometimes formed when two charts meet, and much more. She will use some intriguing examples of people, places and things.

Venue: Friends House, 173 Euston Rd, 10.30am until 4.30pm.  Cost £45 (£40 - special concession - see website).  For more information email admin@londonschoolofastrology or visit our website at http://www.londonschoolofastrology.co.uk/

Horary: Going Further

John Frawley

The London School of Astrology

In this chart-based, practical workshop John builds on the basic knowledge established during last year's introductory day. Using example charts on a wide range of subjects, and emphasising how simple horary is, the focus this year is on the testimonies that give the desired result - and those that deny it. While this builds on last year's workshop, there will be plenty of revision, making it accessible to those who did not attend that. Students are encouraged to read John's 'Horary Textbook' beforehand.

Venue: Friends House, 173 Euston Rd, 10.30am until 4.30pm.  Cost £45 (£40 - special concession - see website).  For more information email admin@londonschoolofastrology or visit our website at http://www.londonschoolofastrology.co.uk/

Astrology and Incarnation

Clare Martin

The Centre for Psychological Astrology

This workshop will explore the astrology of incarnation through the angles of the birth chart, the ‘cross of matter’ formed at the moment of our birth. The ASC/DES axis describes the birth experience itself and the relationship patterns which will become lifelong themes. The MC/IC axis challenges us to accept our incarnation and to find our true vocation in the world. Bring your own chart for group exploration of your individual cross of matter.

All one day seminars cost £50.00 and are held at:  Regents College, Inner Circle, Regents Park, London NW1.

Synastry II

Jane Struthers

The London School of Astrology

This is the second of the two synastry seminars given by Jane Struthers. In this seminar, she looks at some of the charts of first meetings, which help to set the tone for the ensuing relationship, and also examines composite and relationship charts. In addition to explaining how to calculate composite and relationship charts, she explains what they represent and what they reveal, with the help of some fascinating examples. She will then take these one step further by looking at transits, progressions and directions to these charts. There will also be time for the class to discuss their own synastry examples. If you would like to participate, please bring the relevant charts with you, calculated to show either the inter-aspects or the composite chart. Ideally, these should be on acetate so they can be displayed easily.

Venue: Friends House, 173 Euston Rd, 10.30am until 4.30pm.  Cost £45 (£40 - special concession - see website).  For more information email admin@londonschoolofastrology or visit our website at http://www.londonschoolofastrology.co.uk/

Synastry: Family Dynamics and Mysterious Connections

Lynn Bell

The London School of Astrology

Families have mysterious, often unique patterns in the way aspects, planets and houses line up. How does synastry work in our family of origin? A relationship with a parent can be marvellous, difficult, satisfying or utterly frustrating, and these keystone relations resonate throughout our lives. We will look at the individual dynamics between family members, and also open up our vision to the generational connections that move powerfully through the family unconscious. Planetary interconnections tell us what we are working on in each relationship, they help us understand how we have gotten caught in roles we may not wish to be in, and to see the difference between the images we carry in our own charts and the outer dynamics of an particular relationship.

Venue: Friends House, 173 Euston Rd, 10.30am until 4.30pm.  Cost £45 (£40 - special concession - see website).  For more information email admin@londonschoolofastrology or visit our website at http://www.londonschoolofastrology.co.uk/

Taboo - Breaking out the Skeleton in all our Closets

John Green

The Centre for Psychological Astrology

A taboo is a strong social prohibition against words, objects, actions, discussions, or people that are considered undesirable or offensive by a group, culture, or society. How and why do these come about and what personal taboos do we ourselves hold? Today we will look at generational taboos, national taboos and also explore our individual charts to see what personal shadows, demons and fears we are trying to keep locked up. We will be looking not just at Pluto, Saturn and the 8th house but at how our whole chart contributes to our taboos. As humour and satire are great taboo breakers we will be exploring that too. Bring charts and be aware that we will be discussing adult topics such as sex, death, drugs, obscenity and much more in an open and frank manner.

The Borderlands: With Chiron and Neptune as our Guides

Lynn Bell

The Centre for Psychological Astrology

Psychological growth almost always pushes us up against old notions of the self, and at times we break through without knowing where or who we are. Strange impressions may arise when we find ourselves in unrecognizable terrain, and this is especially true as the lunar nodes interface with both Neptune and Chiron. Chiron can be an exceptional guide at these times, picking up where the old models fail us, and keeping us from getting lost in one of Neptune's more phantasmagoric invitations, while holding us to the extraordinary spiritual potential inherent in the conjunction. We will look at the temporary madness of the borderlands described by Neptune in our chart, and explore the healing initiations offered by natal Chiron, as well as the ongoing conjunction and it's impact by transit. Bring copies of your birthcharts on acetate for work in the class.

14th June 2008

Psychological Astrology

Mavis Klein and Richard Swatton

The London School of Astrology

Morning Session (Richard Swatton): The Language of Emotions: An exploration of the astrological Moon. From a psychological perspective the astrological Moon symbolises our instinctual need for love, care, safety, empathy, attachment and bonding. By exploring the Moon's sign, house and aspects, we discover our own unique ways through which these essentials of life are either gained or thwarted. The Moon can also be interpreted as the so-called mother complex, i.e. a kind of psychic template within us of primal trust-in-the-world that we first learn and experience through our primary care-taker, usually the mother. When not understood consciously enough, this complex destines us to a life of automatic emotional responses and fatedness, rather than conscious choice and the necessary ability to take care of ourselves (our internal moon). The language of emotion is complex and many-faceted but trying to understand it through an exploration of the Moon in our chart can help lead to more life-enhancing choices.

Details of Mavis Klein's session to follow.

Venue: Friends House, 173 Euston Rd, 10.30am until 4.30pm.  Cost £45 (£40 - special concession - see website).  For more information email admin@londonschoolofastrology or visit our website at http://www.londonschoolofastrology.co.uk/

The Earth Houses: Drawing Down the Divine

Liz Greene

The Centre for Psychological Astrology

The houses of the horoscope associated with the earth signs are often considered ‘lower’ or somehow spiritually and creatively lacking because they deal with the practical aspects of human life. They are rarely explored in depth, but are given literal and often simplistic interpretations. But these houses are far subtler and deeper than usually acknowledged, and represent those spheres where our greatest creative potential and our most compelling dreams can be given shape and continuity. This seminar will explore the earth houses from a variety of perspectives, including mythic, psychological, and Kabbalistic models.

You and Your Time Tribe: My Life in our World

Darby Costello

The Centre for Psychological Astrology

Uranus, Neptune and Pluto hold their positions in relation to each other for months, even years at a time. They form patterns that become generational signatures, describing the images and thoughts prevailing in society at the time. When we become adults we act out of those birth images and thoughts more than we know. In this seminar we shall explore the assumptions and expectations of different generations / configurations – for example contrasting the people born in the mid 1960s (with Uranus Pluto in Virgo sextile Neptune in Scorpio) group to those born in the early 1970s (with Pluto and Uranus in Libra and Neptune in Sagittarius). We shall also look at the outer planet configurations in the last few years, to see what the present children are absorbing about the world to bring into their own future.

Neptune, Pluto and the Nodes - The Astrology of Self-Transformation

Tracy Marks

The London School of Astrology

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to meet and learn from the acclaimed American astrologer Tracy Marks, author of The Art of Chart Interpretation, How To Handle Your T-square, Your Secret Self and The Astrology of Self-Discovery. New editions of Tracy’s classic texts will also be available on the day.  This is Tracy Marks’ only astrology seminar scheduled in the UK for 2008. She will also be available for a limited number of consultations via the LSA.

Part One: Neptune and Pluto
In this double-session, we will consider the personal and spiritual meanings of both Neptune and Pluto, and how they can enable us to transform ourselves. We will discuss such Neptunian issues as coping with confusion and immobility, and uncovering illusions, while differentiating the realities and unrealities of romantic love, and discovering the clarity which lies beneath Neptunian fog. We will also take an in-depth look at the process of psychological death and rebirth which Pluto may demand of us, and how we might handle the powerful release of energy that Pluto activates. Our focus will be on awakening the constructive healing energy of Pluto, while empowering ourselves and deepening our relationships.

Part Two: The Lunar Nodes
The South Node indicates regressive patterns from childhood and past lives, as well as our innate talents; the North Node, our life task, suggests what we need to learn and how we can most successfully cooperate with and channel cosmic energies. In this session, we will explore the meanings of the nodal axis, as well as aspects to the nodes and the nodes in relation to transits and synastry.

Chironic Irrigation - Redefining the Maverick

John Green

The Centre for Psychological Astrology

It's nearly Chiron's 31st birthday and surely time for an evaluation about what we know about this centaur. Is he the wandering maverick, the 'wounded healer', the philosopher, the rainbow bridge? Have we become stuck on our views on Chiron in this short time of knowing him? Today we're going to flush through what we think we know about Chiron and explore in depth his mythology and what we might have missed previously in our interpretations. We will talk about his role as respectable centaur, his mentoring of heroes, his links to the promethean spirit and explore the stories of his wife and children. What do Chiron placements in the chart tell us and do we place too much importance on him anyway? There is more to Chiron than the wound that never heals and, on his birthday, let's celebrate the whole Chiron story! Bring your charts and experiences.

Blindspots and Breakthroughs: Understanding the Quincunx

Lynn Bell

The Centre for Psychological Astrology

Planets in quincunx have a very tense, misfit relationship, often experienced as immense frustration or locked up energy; but they can be liberated through an eccentric creativity. Richard Idemon described them as 'more opposite than oppositions,' but also explored the humour and erotic energy contained in the aspect. Each Yod links signs with very different natures- the Aries Virgo relationship has a distinctly different dynamic than the one between Aries and Scorpio, and the same can be said for all twelve combinations- we will explore them in depth in order to understand how to break through the initial limitations described by these aspects, and harness the tremendous transformative power of the Yod.

Plutonic Themes - Pluto and the 8th House

Karen Hamaker-Zondag

The Centre for Psychological Astrology

Few people understand what they do with their own Pluto, it seems as if he has his mythological cap of invisibility on his head when we try to look at ourselves. How is Pluto acting out in your chart, and in which ways you are confronted with it? What can you do with Pluto? I will consider Pluto in the houses and in aspect to planets and house-rulers. What kind of pain does he causes and how does his transformation processes work? And how about questions of shadow and guilt? The 8th house has a special dynamic, and we feel a kind of love and hate at the same time towards its contents. We'll explore why this is the case, and how we can understand its dynamics to cope with our problems in daily life. We'll learn how to delineate planets in the 8th and in aspect to the ruler of the 8th house. Pluto in transit very often brings us things we don't expect; also good ones. But we always have to pay a certain price for it, sometimes more than we thought, often a different price than expected, and Pluto confronts us with contents and situations of a specific kind. I'll show what Pluto tends to bring, and what would be the best attitude to work with what shows up.
