UK ASTROLOGICAL ASSOCIATIONS AND SOCIETIES
Astrology is the oldest of the sciences encompassing both the study and measurement of the heavens - astronomy, and the interpretation of these observations - astrology. Down until the 17th century astronomy and astrology was one and the same thing. This larger astrology covers the whole of mankind's knowledge and beliefs about the heavens and the way in which these relate to every aspect of art, science, philosophy and religion. After nearly 200 years of relative neglect the serious study of astrology in Britain experienced a gradual renaissance at the end of the 19th century. This was consolidated with the formation of the Astrological Lodge in 1915. The development of formal astrological education really took off in 1948 with the foundation of the Faculty of Astrological Studies. In 1958 the creation of the Astrological Association encouraged closer co-operation between students of astrology in all walks of life. In the following years additional schools have been founded, so that today there is a wide range of courses and summer schools devoted to furthering our understanding of the relationship between macrocosm and microcosm which astrology describes.
